PILGRIMAGE
After reading the book „The Pilgrimage“by Paulo Coelho I dreamed of walking this way. But the way life is … . It never happened because something was missing. Not enough time, nobody taking care of the children or not enough money.
One days I discovered the Shell sign directly in front of my door on a streetlamp. The Path, right next to my house?
Now I was curious and did some research on the internet. I found out there are countless paths and some even near my home. The Via Baltica, the one I live next to, goes like the name suggests next to the Baltic Sea and meets the Via Jutlandica which comes south from Schleswig to Lübeck.
I really felt stuck in my life at that time. At moments like this I feel like quitting, taking my backpack and leaving. In this case I did.
From the moment I decided to walk everything fell into place.
I met a friend and told her my plan. She brought me the corresponding pilgrims‘ guide. The Pilgrimscredential came in time on the next day. So I got on a train to Schleswig without any plans. No accommodation, nothing. Just my backpack and me. So I set off. On my way. Step by step a little bit further to myself.
What is a pilgrimage?
A Pilgrimage is a journey or search of moral or spiritual significance. Typically, it is a journey to a shrine or other location of importance to a person’s beliefs and faith. The occassions can vary from a metaphorical journey into someone’s beliefs, to give thanks or because of a vow and lots more. In my case it was to gain distance.
I had three days. In February. In this season our region is not very inviting. So I started walking into the fog and the uncertainty.
It was one of the biggest gifts of my life. Everything I needed like a place to stay, something to eat, words of encouragemant, a spule of florists‘ wire came to me in a miraculous way and always in time. It felt like an unvisible power knew all my needs before I mentioned anything.
On my first stage of the trip from Schleswig to Gettorf I percieved this cold foggy season totally differently. The trees and the plowed fields were not only bleak. They were ready for everything that may come. So I walked myself free from frustration and hopelessness and prepared myself for what may come.
A month later I was on the next stage from Gettorf to Kiel. This covered different topics and challenges. Endless straight pathways that just required seemingly endless walking. Paths without any hint where only intuition helps. Or trial and error. But here also everything was prepared for me.
I went on the last stage from Plön to Lübeck about another month later. Spring was on its way. The breakthrough. Also in my Situation. Just because of letting go and releasing.
Sometimes it is the unusual things which bring us further. Trust your intuition. Here a short clip. Enjoy.
